Roading Contractors

MSCivil is the Council’s primary roading contractor, responsible for the maintenance of both sealed and unsealed roads, road resealing, footpath repairs and replacements, and rural drainage maintenance.

Their work includes routine maintenance on the district’s local roads, such as repairing potholes, damaged seals, and road surfaces. They also undertake resealing projects, including chipseal and asphalt concrete work on Council roads.

In emergency situations, MSCivil responds to incidents such as roadside flooding, slips, fallen trees, and stream blockages.

They carry out construction and reinstatement of footpath surfaces, including grinding down trip hazards in existing concrete, levelling footpaths around covers and lids, and addressing mobility crossing hazards. Their work also includes the removal and disposal of damaged kerb and channel sections, as well as the supply and construction of new kerbs and channels.

In addition, MSCivil is responsible for unsealed pavement and drainage maintenance, culvert maintenance and renewals, and high shoulder removals.

Directionz

Directionz is responsible for any road side signage in the South Waikato District. This includes repairing and renewing all regulatory signage. Directionz is also responsible for the maintenance of edge marker posts, guardrails, sightrails and District and township entry signage.

Roadrunner Markers

Roadrunner Markers is responsible for the road marking in the South Waikato District. All road markings (ie centrelines, edge lines limit lines etc) are remarked every year from November to February (subject to weather). Rural roads that receive heavier use also receive another re-mark prior to winter to maintain visibility and safety.

Horizon

Horizon is responsible for streetlighting throughout the district, including those on State Highways. The majority of their work is reactive maintenance for streetlighting issues on road reserves, public carparks, alleyways and festive lighting. They are responsible for replacing old concrete streetlights where the most faults occur due to poor condition of electrical components.

(A note on power outages: Most large outages occur due to PowerCo network damage or failure and only PowerCo can attend to these issues.)

Intergroup Ltd

Intergroup is responsible for the routine cyclic sweeping of urban footpaths, kerbs and channels, car parks, and grate clearances within the South Waikato District. Intergroup also removes detritus from kerbs and channels, water channels, sumps, cesspits, and gratings within 1.5 to 2.0 metres from the kerb face and in car parks.

Power Weed Control Ltd

Power Weed Control is responsible for vegetation control in rural road reserves within the South Waikato District. The work involves rural mowing, chemical vegetation control, and the management of rural trees.
