How can I apply?
It is great to hear you want to be part of our community! Find the role you want to apply for through our Careers website. There are diverse roles available throughout the district, and one of them could be yours.
How does the recruitment process work?
We review all applications and shortlist suitable candidates. If selected, you’ll be invited to an interview. Preferred candidates complete pre-employment checks before receiving a verbal offer, followed by a formal Letter of Offer and onboarding with our team.
Do you offer internships?
We generally do not advertise internships, but if you have skills that are relevant to Council then we will certainly consider you. Email us at careers@southwaikato.govt.nz detailing your skills and what you would like to gain from an internship, and someone from our team will contact you.
I have an enquiry about a job posting, who can I contact?
Any enquiries can be made through careers@southwaikato.govt.nz
What if I only have relevant qualifications but no experience or vice versa?
If you are unsure as to whether you are right for the role, please contact us at careers@southwaikato.govt.nz to discuss before applying. Alternatively, provide a detailed cover letter explaining why you are suitable.
Do you recommend I submit a cover letter?
Yes! This is especially helpful during the shortlisting for us to get to know you a little better.
I live overseas, can I apply?
Yes, you can. We are an accredited employer with Immigration New Zealand.
Do you accept open applications?
We only accept online applications for advertised vacancies. All available roles are posted and advertised through this website.
Can I work from home?
The advertised role will provide details about whether flexible working arrangements can be offered. We generally do not offer fully remote working arrangements.
What do your pre-employment checks involve?
Depending on the nature of the role, our pre-employment checks may include:
- Criminal record check
- Driver licence check
- Drug and alcohol test
- Credit check
