Public Health Warning Lifted – Lake Arapuni (Jones Landing)

Update 4 February 2026: The public health warning issued for Lake Arapuni has been lifted today by National Public Health Service (NPHS), after subsequent tests have showed that cyanobacterial levels are below the health warning level. Precautionary Approach - Lake Whakamaru (Lake Whakamaru Reserve; Dunham's Point Reserve)

Update 9 January 2026: Waikato Regional Council has pre-emptively placed red warnings/ unsuitable for swimming at Lake Whakamaru Boat ramp on the LAWA (Land, Air, Water Aotearoa) website. The area is suggested as unsuitable for swimming as there is a risk of health effects from exposure to cyanobacteria and algal blooms. For example, respiratory, irritation and allergy symptoms.

No health warning has been issued for Lake Whakamaru Reserve and Dunham's Point Reserve, but precautionary approach is advisable upstream and downstream from the Lake Whakamaru Boat Ramp and nearby reserves.
