Opening a new business

Prospective owners of new businesses should make contact with the Environmental Health Department to discuss any requirements before starting any work. This could save you time and money further on in the design and construction process.
A completed application form must be submitted to Council with the accompanying fee. An Environmental Health Officer will contact you for a pre-opening inspection - you may not open until registration has been made and the Environmental Health Officer has approved opening of the premises.
Once a premises is registered by Council, the Certificate of registration must be openly displayed in a public part of the premises. If you wish to continue operating, you must renew your certificate annually.
Renewing a registration

Registration is renewed each year on 30 June with the renewal letters being sent out in May each year. The renewal application form will need to be updated with any changes to details, signed and returned with the accompanying fee.
Transferring a registration

If you take over an existing premises, you need to notify Council within 10 working days of taking over the business. The transfer application form must be submitted along with the accompanying fee.
