Progress Update: South Waikato Indoor Pools

The refurbished South Waikato Indoor Pools building is starting to take shape, with the most noticeable change being the newly installed Kingspan roof.

There's a lot happening indoors, too. The ceiling above the reception area is being insulated. The framing in the spa plant room has been completed. There's a lot of concrete being poured in and the aluminium joinery is being installed. The water treatment plant room is just about completed.

The new HVAC units are being installed in the changing area and the community rooms.

Air and There: What is HVAC?

HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. It's a mechanical system that controls the flow and quality of air, the indoor temperature and humidity in buildings.

The Indoor Pools Refurbishment Project includes the replacing of the existing HVAC with a new one. You can find out more about all the changes happening at the Pools here.

The renovation of the Indoor Pools is a key project in Council’s Long-Term Plan (LTP). Once complete, the Pools will boast of much improved facilities, including a new sauna and plunge pool, a splash pad, non-slip flooring, new changing rooms suitable for families, the elderly and those with disabilities as well as a community room. The outside area including the playground is also getting a major upgrade.

While these works continue at pace, the summer pools in Putāruru and Tīrau are open. You can see the opening hours and charges here.

The temporary pop-up pool, located at the South Waikato Sport and Events Centre in Tokoroa, will offer limited services for the community such as learn to swim classes, water safety for schools, early morning walkers and rehabilitation sessions.
