Progress Update: South Waikato Indoor Pools

The South Waikato Indoor Pools Project has made major strides in the last few months. The seismic strengthening and structural steel installation have been completed, marking a significant project milestone. The old roof has been removed completely and the the new roof will be installed by Christmas. The electrical, plumbing, mechanical and fire installations are all underway and the new HVAC equipment will start going up soon.

Progress Boards have been up outside the construction site, at the Council Office building in Tokoroa and at all our libraries to help the Public stay up to date.

While these works continue at pace, the summer pool in Putāruru is now open and the Tīrau pool will open on 6 December. We are looking forward to a busy summer! You can see the opening hours and charges here.

The Pop-up Pool at the Sports & Events Centre continues to accommodate early morning walkers and rehabilitation, aqua care and swimming lessons for children and adults during the Tokoroa indoor pools closure.

The renovation of the Indoor Pools is a key project in Council’s Long-Term Plan (LTP). Once complete, the Pools will boast of much improved facilities, including a new sauna and plunge pool, non-slip flooring, new changing rooms suitable for families, the elderly and those with disabilities as well as a community room.

While work continues at the Pools, the temporary pop-up pool, located at the South Waikato Sport and Events Centre in Tokoroa, will offer limited services for the community such as learn to swim classes, water safety for schools, early morning swims and rehabilitation sessions.
