Te Waihou/Blue Spring this Labour Weekend
South Waikato District Council is anticipating an influx of visitors at Te Waihou/Blue Spring this Labour Weekend, which will place more pressure on already crowded roads, carparks and walkway areas.
Those planning a trip to the site between Friday 23 - Monday 26 October are asked to instead consider visiting at an alternative and less busy time.
There will be lengthy delays on the road and to access parking, with traffic management in place and staff monitoring roadside parking.
With limited room to park, turn and manoeuvre on Leslie Road, buses and large vehicles are asked to avoid the area during this period, for the safety of everyone.
Council has also put the following measures in place from 24-26 October:
- 30km/hr speed restriction either side of the Leslie Road carpark
- Four traffic management staff on site between 8am-7pm each day, to help traffic flow and prevent unsafe parking
- Additional toilet facilities at the Leslie Road carpark
- Additional bins at the Leslie Road carpark
Council remains in dialogue with the New Zealand Transport Agency and technical experts around traffic solutions. These temporary measures have been put in place while Council continues to work on long-term solutions for Te Waihou/Blue Spring.
