What should the budget look like in the future? Help Council shape the next ten years for the South Waikato District.
Council is facing some tough choices on spending as it prepares for the Long Term Plan 2027-37 (LTP) and is asking the community to help shape the future spending priorities. Using an interactive 'Fund It' tool through Your Voice South Waikato, users can have a go at funding their priority services and give further feedback on the Draft Strategic Framework.
Open for feedback for 20 days until Wednesday 28 October, this engagement activity is designed to help inform Council on the community's priorities for the LTP. Formal consultation is due to go out for submissions in March 2027, before being adopted later in June.
This early engagement activity offers residents the chance to help influence Council priorities, service levels, investment choices and acceptable trade-offs prior to formal consultation stage early next year.
The use of a practical budgeting tool helps demonstrate that increasing investment in one area requires reducing investment elsewhere or accepting different service levels – and the importance of getting this balance right for the community.
The Budget Challenge survey includes an additional feedback opportunity, asking the community what they would like to see Council continue doing, start doing and stop doing, under the 'Keep – Start – Stop' section.
Live statistics are published for each user (but not including name or contact details), and full results will be available online after the survey closes. A printed version of the survey is also available upon request from Customer Solutions teams across the District, and via the next In Touch magazine which is due to hit shelves in the coming week.
