Welcoming our new Pacific Memories pou to Leith Place
News
The pou features hibiscus, banana palm, taro leaves and moko, celebrating Cook Island heritage.
“The cloak on the figure is like a tapa cloth with intricate Polynesian motifs,” Tui explains.
“It also references the sail of a vaka as it navigates the Pacific Ocean. The sun and moon are important to these journeys, much like the sea life and the water. These elements feature in abstract designs carved into the pou.”
“My hope is that this pou, Pacific Memories, can embody the beauty of the Pacific Islands for the Tokoroa Pasifika community for many years to come.”
