Due to an issue at the Glenshea Bore, Council is placing Putāruru under Level 3 Water Restrictions to manage immediate water consumption concerns.
These restrictions are effective immediately and will be in place until the issue is resolved. Council will provide an update as soon as possible. All residents and businesses must take practical steps to reduce water use and avoid non-essential use (i.e cooking, hygiene).
Water is currently being pumped exclusively from the Waihou Spring. Some users may experience reduced pressure in the meantime.
Level 3 restrictions include:
- No sprinklers permitted. Hand-held hosing only.
- Irrigation systems must be switched off. Watering should be limited to essential plants such as fruit and vegetables only.
- Use trigger nozzles on hoses or, where possible, buckets or watering cans.
- Pool owners must use covers to minimise evaporation and maintain water quality.
- No washing of windows, buildings, driveways, or vehicles unless required for health and safety. Where necessary, use a bucket instead of a hose or water blaster.
- Showers should be kept as short as possible
- Reuse water where practical (e.g. from showers, cooking, or rainwater) for gardening purposes
