Independent chair commends Council’s work through current term

The independent chair of the South Waikato District Council’s Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee has commended the positive results achieved by the group through the current triennium.

Speaking during the final meeting of the committee before the October election, Rachael Dean opened proceedings by acknowledging the efficiency demonstrated by the Commitee and Staff.

“These people should be congratulating themselves enormously. I think this has demonstrated good leadership at the Elected Members’ level and top quality work from the Staff.”

Among the topics discussed at Friday’s meeting was the draft Annual Report for the 2024-2025 financial year, which Dean noted was presented five weeks before the due date.

“To have the Annual Report draft presented at this at this meeting, and in such an advanced form, is impressive,” Dean said.

In presenting the report, SWDC Chief Financial Officer Wiki Cortesi referenced the introduction of more modern and robust financial processes and systems, which have improved efficiency.

Dean also acknowledged Council’s ongoing work to strengthen transparency and efficiency around procurement process.

SWDC continues to benefit from a robust procurement framework, supported by high-quality guidance documents and assistance from an external procurement specialist.
