Progress Update: South Waikato Indoor Pools

We're ticking off milestones at the South Waikato Indoor Pools in Tokoroa. The last month has seen a lot of rebuilding work continuing at pace. The pipe and concrete work are underway for the Plunge Pool. We've completed the installation of the insulated Kingspan wall panel at the change area, where the concrete is also being laid.

Next in line is the completion of the piping in the Plant Room and strengthening of the Balance Tank end wall. The stormwater reconnection for the Pools will also be completed.

What's a Balance Tank and a Plant Room?

A balance tank is used to store excess water generated from the displacement of swimmer’s bodies who are in the swimming pool, so the level and depth of the pool stays the same no matter how many people are in the pool.

A plant room in a swimming pool is a dedicated room that contains all the equipment necessary to maintain the pool's water quality, air quality, and overall functionality. This includes things like chlorinators, ventilation, heating etc.

Progress Boards have been up outside the construction site, at the Council Office building in Tokoroa and at all our libraries to help the Public stay up to date with what's happening.

The long overdue renovation of the Indoor Pools is a key project in Council’s Long-Term Plan (LTP). Once complete, the Pools will boast of much improved facilities, including a new sauna and plunge pool, non-slip flooring, new changing rooms suitable for families, the elderly and those with disabilities as well as a community room.

While work continues at the Pools, a temporary pop-up pool, located at the South Waikato Sport and Events Centre in Tokoroa, will offer limited services for the community such as learn to swim classes, water safety for schools, early morning swims and rehabilitation sessions.
