The South Waikato Indoor Pools in Tokoroa have been abuzz with activity in recent months, as work to refurbish the much-loved community asset continues at pace.
The demolition phase of the work, which was included as a major project in the District’s Long-Term Plan for 2024-2034, has seen much of the inside of the building taken down in preparation for new construction and the installation of more modern technology and materials.
The reception area which greets pool users as they enter the building has been stripped out, along with the tile flooring and the ceiling. The existing main pool structure – which will remain in place – has been drained and braced in order for machines to be able to operate in the vicinity without causing damage. The existing changing rooms have been removed - these will be replaced by a revamped changing area. The toilets, and sauna have also been demolished.
We are now starting to build up. The drains for the new change rooms have been installed and concrete has been poured for the revamped Change Village. The plant room roof has been put up and large louvre doors have been fitted. A new internal wall framing that will accommodate the new HVAC unit is being put in place, with an insulated panel and vapour barrier that will improve the overall building environment.
Trench work for the kids pool/splash pad service is now complete. Pipework modifications are underway for the Spa Pools. There will be two spa pools, both with jets. They will operate separately, so there will always be a spa pool available if the other one is being cleaned.
