Description

The South Waikato Sport and Events Centre is a multi-purpose facility that has the capacity to satisfy a wide variety of business meetings, sports events and private functions.

The facility is situated in the expansive Tokoroa Memorial Sportsground, taking full advantage of the open view through to forest and park grounds. The facilities include: a two-court arena, four-team changing rooms, two function rooms, kitchen and informal mix-and-mingle spaces.

Situated in the heart of the North Island, Tokoroa is close to Hamilton, Tauranga, Taupo and Rotorua, making it the perfect venue for you to escape from the city and experience the local hospitality.

The South Waikato Sport and Events Centre has been discussed in this community for over 20 years. In 2008 Council committed considerable funding to the project from its Development Fund and some three years from there, the project was given the go ahead by Council. The project sold itself to major funders and we are grateful to Lotteries ($750,000), Trust Waikato ($500,000) and The Lion Foundation ($300,000) for their support and financial commitment.

Should you not find quite what you are looking for below, we are more than happy to tailor a package to suit your individual needs for multiple rooms/courts, days or activities. We will work with you to provide examples of possible setups of the venue and do our best to customise the setup to meet your requirements. Chairs and tables are available and are included in the hireage fees. In some cases, additional fees may apply. Please refer to the Fees and Charges section of our website.

Office Hours

  • The arena is a versatile space that can be used for sports games such as volleyball, futsal, basketball or badminton - but can also be hired for larger conferences, dinners, concerts and other functions. In these cases, the entire arena floor can be carpeted for the event.

    Please note that the above capacities are guidelines only, with adequate plans in place we are able to increase maximum capacities. Please contact the Centre Manager for more information. With onsite parking for 122, the centre has the capacity to accommodate a variety of function and events – with friendly staff that are willing to go the extra mile.

  • Court 1 of the Arena can host single games of netball, basketball, futsal, and volleyball OR up to 3 games of badminton. The Court is adjacent to the Grandstand which can be booked out at no additional charge (140 people max capacity). This single court can also be booked out for other types of events where a larger open space is required - eg: concerts, performances, dinners etc

  • The Rotary Room is almost twice as big as the Lions Room. Perfect for any private or public functions with access to an overhead projector, sound system and kitchenette.

  • The Lions Room is the smaller of the two rooms and is perfect for small meetings, presentations or as a breakout room. With an overhead projector, sound system and heating, you will feel comfortable no matter how you use it.

  • The foyer provides additional space for functions to serve food and refreshments. To book this space, add the Combined Function Rooms to your booking first, then add the Foyer using the "Add another resource" button.

  • The grandstand can seat 104 people. It can be booked with either Court1 or the Full Arena.
    To book this resource, add "Court1" or the "Entire Arena" to your booking, then select the Grandstand by clicking on the "Add Another Resource" button at the first step of your booking.
  • Four changing rooms are available for use with any of our facilities.
    To book the Changing Rooms, select any of part of the Arena or any one of the Function Rooms, then choose the "Add Another Resource" button at the first step of your booking.
  • Our kitchen can be used to prepare or heat food for your function. To book the Kitchen, select any of the function rooms, then choose the "Add Another Resource" button at the first step of your booking.

  • This small kitchenette has a sink and small bench with a single door fridge. The kitchenette is only available to use with the Rotary Room or Combined Function Room bookings.
