ShakeOut Scavenger Hunt

The national ShakeOut Drill is coming up quick on Thursday 19 October!
The drill occurs every year to remind people of the importance of ensuring your household is prepared for an emergency to strike at any time.
At 9.30am on Thursday 19 October schools, workplaces and people around New Zealand will practice an earthquake drill where they need to drop, cover and hold. Those who are closer to coastal areas also participate their evacuation walk, in case of a tsunami. You can sign up to participate here.

The South Waikato District Council are putting on a ShakeOut Scavenger Hunt in the build up to the national ShakeOut drill.
The South Waikato ShakeOut detective has gone missing and we need your help to find him before the national ShakeOut drill on Thursday 19 October! The detective helps us find all of the amazing schools and workplaces that have signed up for the drill. He makes sure that everyone is dropping, covering and holding correctly!
Every Friday from 15 September - 06 October, we will be placing a hidden token in each South Waikato town. The first person to find the token will win a survival kit for their household, worth over $200.
Each Friday a number of clues will be posted to our Facebook page, Antenno and website to help you find the hidden ShakeOut token.
Here are the Scavenger Hunt Dates for each town:
- Friday 15 September: Tīrau
- Friday 22 September: Putāruru
- Friday 29 September: Arapuni
- Friday 6 October: Tokoroa
If you find the token, you must send a picture of you with the token, along with your details and address to any of the below:
- South Waikato District Council Facebook Messenger,
- Communications@southwaikato.govt.nz,
- or text to 027 447 2664.
You cannot search for more than one token, and you can only search for the hidden token from the town that you reside in. For example, if you live in Tokoroa, you can only search for the hidden Tokoroa token.
