The project to replace Tirau’s ageing water system reached a major milestone last week with the final replacement pipe officially going live, securing a more reliable water supply for the town.
The new watermain is now fully operational and contractors are currently on-site completing final reinstatement work and tidy-ups.

What’s next for Tīrau CBD?
Now that the new watermain is connected, our crews will focus on removing trees along State Highway 1 that have roots growing under the footpath, causing it to raise and become a trip hazard.
Once the trees are removed, the pavement will be replaced with new asphalt. Traffic management will be in place, but you’ll still be able to access all of the businesses along the street.
Work on the footpaths is expected to take up to four weeks, depending on weather conditions. To minimise disruption, the work will be completed in four stages. Works will take place on the eastern side of the road between Rose Street and Okoroire Street, and on the western side between High Street and BP.
Further down the track new trees will be planted to replace those that were removed.
