The New Zealand Army is coming to Tokoroa this August
News
South Waikato residents may notice a military presence in Tokoroa from Saturday 8 August to Sunday 16 August as the New Zealand Army carries out a training exercise.
Up to 250 personnel from 2/1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment will take part in the exercise, with soldiers based at Tokoroa Airfield.
Throughout the week, we can expect to see army vehicles, soldiers in uniform and foot patrols around Tokoroa.
If you see soldiers in the community, feel free to stop and say hello. They're happy to chat as part of the exercise.
Soldiers with weapons will be patrolling around:
- Tokoroa Airfield
- Air Training Corps (ATC) Hall
- Tokoroa Shooting Club
- Surrounding areas, including Princess Beatrix Avenue and Whakaruru Street
This is only a training exercise designed to prepare soldiers for operational deployments.
