Tokoroa Library is several steps closer to re-opening as a modern Community Hub, with significant progress made over the past few months.

Inside the building, the transformation is easy to see. Internal painting is complete, carpet has been laid throughout, and the ceiling tiles, kitchen facilities and front reception area are in place. Contractors are now putting the finishing touches on the interior, with door installation, bathroom fittings and other final details.

Outside, work has continued on the canopy and roof. We are also working alongside our cultural partners to develop a unique design for the Community Hub to reflect the identity and stories of our District.

Our Customer Solutions Team is moving

Once the Community Hub re-opens, it will offer more than library services. Council’s Customer Solutions Team will also be based there. The friendly team at our front desk will be moving from the Council building to the hub, making it easier to pay your rates, register your dogs and submit applications when you visit.

Project background

The refurbishment of the library building, originally built in 1994, is one of Council's major projects outlined in the Long Term Plan, with $2 million invested to modernise the facility. The project includes seismic strengthening, improved weatherproofing, double-glazed windows, an upgraded HVAC system, LED lighting and new community and meeting spaces designed to better serve the South Waikato community for years to come.
