Progress Update: Tokoroa Community Hub | March 2026

The works at the Library-turned-community hub in Tokoroa have turned a new chapter.

We're now building up and if you have passed by, you'll have noticed the scaffolding on the exterior. The interior works are progressing well, too, with the community room, meeting rooms and Staff office areas taking shape.

Earlier this year, the team identified some issues with the roofing and external drainage. Our contractors are working to quickly fix these issues and make the building watertight. We have also had some weather events over the last few months that have seen a slight setback to the project and our project team are working through to find ways to make back time lost. We look forward to announcing a reopening date in the coming months.

In the meanwhile, all library services can be accessed at the temporary library at Leith Place.

The refurbishment of the Library building, originally built in 1994, is one of Council's major projects outlined in the Long Term Plan, with $2M set aside for it. The much-needed refurbishment project includes a number of structural changes, the most important being water tightening of the building. The building will get a seismic upgrade and other changes that will make the facility more energy efficient and cut operational costs, including double-glazed windows, an upgraded HVAC system and LED lights.

Once completed, the community hub will have bookable community and meeting rooms and accommodate Council's customer services alongside library services. You can find out more about what's happening and what to expect here.
