Meet the Candidates Standing for South Waikato District Council
Voters across the South Waikato District will soon have their say in the upcoming local elections. A range of candidates have put their names forward to represent their communities on the South Waikato District Council.
This article introduces the candidates standing for election and is intended to help voters make informed choices. The South Waikato District Council does not endorse or favour any candidate. The information presented here has been drawn from official nomination material.
Here’s a quick overview of the roles voters will see on their voting papers:
- Mayor – Leads the District Council and represents the District as a whole.
- District Council – Councillors make decisions on local services such as roads, water, recreation facilities, building and planning, and community wellbeing. South Waikato District is divided into three wards (Tokoroa, Putāruru and Tīrau).
- Regional Council – Oversees regional functions such as environmental management, water quality, regional transport, and civil defence.
- Community Boards – Represent specific local areas and advise Council on community needs, services, and local spending.

Residential voters:
South Waikato District Council residential electors who are not listed on the final electoral roll can still enrol up to 5pm on Friday, 10 October 2025 by:
- Calling 0800 36 76 56
- Visiting www.vote.nz
- Texting your name and address to 3676
- Emailing enquiries@elections.govt.nz to request a form
Ratepayer voters:
South Waikato ratepayers not listed on the final roll can enrol by:
- Collecting a form from the South Waikato District Council Office, Torphin Crescent, Tokoroa (by 4.30pm, Friday 10 October 2025)
- Applying online at www.electionz.com/ratepayer
Special voting:
Special voting documents will be available:
- From Tuesday 9 September to Friday 10 October during normal office hours
- On Saturday 11 October (9am–12 noon) from the South Waikato District Council Office, Torphin Crescent, Tokoroa
