Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our District
Metservice has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, following a Heavy Rain Watch, for our District.
The Thunderstorm Watch is valid from noon - 10pm today (Thursday 3 July).
Forecast: A front accompanied by a band of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms moves east across the upper North Island today. This afternoon and into this evening there is a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms from Northland to the north of Taranaki and also the west of the Coromandel Peninsula with localised downpours bringing rainfall intensities of 25 to 40 mm/h. Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips.
Get ready:
- Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain.
- Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously.
