SWDC wheelie bin rollout just about complete
Released: Friday 17 September 2021
South Waikato District Council’s wheelie bin rollout is nearing completion with just a small percentage of household bins still to be sorted.
In just four weeks the teams delivered around 16,200 bins to 8,100 properties. There are around 200 properties that the team was still following up this week. This equates to around a 96% accuracy rollout!
“This is a tremendous achievement from the whole team,” said Andrew Pascoe, Council’s Acting Group Manager Assets. “The team achieved this in what was already a very tight schedule hugely complicated by lockdown (and losing more days) and then operating at AL4 and 3. What the teams involved in this rollout have achieved is outstanding.
“We know some people only got bins a day or two before their first use; and a few people were still without bins at their first collection. Your kindness and patience under the circumstances is appreciated.”
Staff are aware that a handful of properties are still awaiting bins, a few properties have double bins; and we know that there are some unclaimed wheelie bins still kerbside. We are getting to these.
“Many of you have contacted us already,” said Phil Burt, Council’s Three Waters and Infrastructure Manager. “If you are still missing bins and haven’t been in touch, please call our team. Also, if you do happen to notice that bins have been kerbside for a few days without being claimed, call us in this regard too and we will be along to collect them.”
A reminder to our community that the small bin with the red lid is for rubbish, the large bin with the yellow lid is for clean recycling and the crates are now for glass only. Council has been collecting green bags over the past couple of weeks due to the tightness of the delivery and that a few people were still without bins, but the green bag sweeper vehicle will not be in operation from next week. Please do not place green bags kerbside. They can be taken to the Transfer Station and dropped free of charge until 30 September 2021.
The recycling directory on Council’s website is a useful tool to help our community with what goes in which wheelie bin (and crate), what is collected kerbside and what requires alternative disposal.
