The South Waikato Rural Fire Authority is duly constituted by notice in the Gazette as the Rural Fire Authority for the South Waikato District Farmlands, Native Reserves Farm Lot Plantations and Public Reserves, but excepting those areas in the Pumicelands Rural Fire Authority area operated by Hancock Forest Management (NZ) Ltd.
The Rural Fire District encompasses some 74,400 Hectares consisting of:
- Farm Lot Plantations
- Native Forest Reserves
- Farmland
- Public Reserves
This Fire Plan is prepared consistent with the requirements of the Forests and Rural Fire Regulations 2005 and the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977. It sets out the management and planning process that the South Waikato District Rural Fire Authority is required to formulate in order to carry out its business and to meet the statutory obligations of fire authorities for the Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery of fire. The Rural Fires Act 1977 and the Forest and Rural Fire Regulations 2005 are deemed "Regulatory".
