The Local Government Act 2002 requires all councils to consult with their local communities to identify Community Outcomes and priorities. Community Outcomes are statements of what communities want to achieve, now and in the future. Their purpose is to provide guidance to local groups and organisations.
Many of the key needs in the District relate to youth issues, including youth transitions from school to work and training, addressing our high rate of student stand-downs and suspensions, reducing our rate of teen parenthood, increasing our levels of educational attainment, and enabling better youth engagement in community activities.
The Local Government Act 2002 is currently being amended. One of the issues receiving attention is community outcomes. A Bill is due in early 2010, and is expected to be enacted in mid 2010. News about the changes to the Act in terms of community outcomes will be posted on this site at that time.
